This year, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection has awarded the Blue Flag to 20 beaches, 4 more than in 2009. The beaches affected are: Saidia municipal Mdiq, Fnideq Achakar, Sol beach, Asilah, Skhirate, Bouznika, Sablet (Mohammedia), Ain Diab, Ms Chouala (Ain Diab extension) Haouzia, Oualidia, Sidi Rahal, Safi city,Souiria Lkdima, Essaouira, Agadir, and Foum el Oued Mireleft / Laâyoune.Established in France in 1985,the Blue Flag is initially only for the quality of bathing water and sanitation. His award was expanded to three other important criteria: health and safety, planning and management, environmental education. The label is expanding rapidly in many European coastlines and shores, and became global in 2001 with the entry of South Africa. Morocco is one of 39 countries now involved since 2005. For the Moroccan Association for eco-tourism and nature protection (Ampen), this label is a challenge. There is an "awareness of the actors to enter this project in order to integrate into the community planning, which certainly will become widespread in coming years."
